Irecently was given an old manure spreader that is all there and works fine but wood needs to be replaced. It is on steel wheels. It is a New Idea
Numbers are M10A and L324. I Don't know which is the model number. The serial number isA13002. Can anyone help to identify the year?

It sounds like a 10A, made from the 1940's ( I think) until late '60s (on runbber or steel).

Superpicker,
Thanks for the information. You are probably right about it being 10A. I have no idea how to trace the serial number Thanks again.

Hey Bob,,funny you should have this post,,I was just comin here to ask similar questions,I picked one up at auction this past spring,,first one I ever owned,,got tired dumpin horse manuer round the barn,,mines in real nice shape(wood)cant find any names, numbers or anything on it,its wheel driven, not very big,,filled it up today for the first time(7 wheelbarrows),could of piled more on if I wanted to heap it up,anyways theres 2 hand controled levers, the one on my left(facing front of tractor)has 2 notches on it and one on my right has numerous notches,I assume left side activates wheel drive and right lever adjust speed of floor scrapers(I think anyways)I activated left lever and rear blades started spinning, floor scrapers wouldnt start moving until I lowered right lever all the way down to bottom notch, does this mean my drive chains are loose or worn?? It did work great though. Is there somewhere Im not looking for names and serial numbers,,would like to find a manual for it.

Thanks Stan

SJ Our spreaders are somewhat different as the handles are on different sides. On the New Idea that I have the handle that engages the drive wheel is on the right side {facing the front} and has only one notch to engage while left side has six different speed notches. Mine has ID plate
on bottom frame near front wheel on left side{facing spreader}. It should work in all speed notches. Might make sure it oiled and greased as that might have something to do with it not engaging in all notches. Good luck with your spreader.

SJ, If your ground drive spreader is like most I know of, the apron chain (floor scrapers) is driven by a ratchet which is moved by a big cam on the axel. The ratchet always moves the same distance but it is lifted off the rachet wheel by
the action of the lever. The first notch and it only contacts one tooth etc. This mechanism must be free to operate smoothly. Make sure that all the springs are in place and the actuator rod is not bent. Ed
