NH489 Haybine question

I"m considering the purchase of a 1988 NH 489 Haybine from a dealer. Overall it appears to be in good condition although the rollers/crimpers have some small chunks of rubber missing. Is this a serious problem? Can one replace the rubber on the rollers or is it cost prohibitive? If so, is a do-it-yourself job for someone with reasonable mechanical skills? Thanks!

if the chunks are small you can liquid nail fill
them and then wire brush easy the rubber and brush on bed liner so i have been told

The roller has to be replaced as a complete itiem. You cannot just replace the rubber. Also, if you are not very mechanical minded, you probably will not want to do the job. By the way, onece the rubber starts coming off, it will keep coming off. Steve

The rollers cost big $$. Unless you can get it cheap I'd look some more. I know of places that have a good number of haybines here in Missouri.

Have a 489 that much of the rubber has come off. 1000$ USD for new rollers and bearings. They are also mucho $$ to get installed for you.

You can't mow long grass hay with the rubber chunked, it just clogs up. Short hay is ok.
