All,

I need to pull a trailer with my tractor from the drawbar that attaches to the lift arms of the 3 point. I put a 2" ball on the middle hole. I read here (I think) that someone made a device that would hold the drawbar from rotating.
I went to TSC, and they had never heard of such.
Is there such a device?

All guidance is appreciated!

Thanks All!

Concerning the lack of down pressure and the trailer raising up the drawbar, I found a nifty solution. The tractor I am using to pull the trailer with is a Kubota L225. I took the top link from the Ford 4000 I have. I put one end on the tractor where it normally goes, and the other I can attach to the drawbar with a smaller pin. It leaves a little ability to raise & lower, and prevents the lift from flying up if I stop suddenly, or all the weight shifts to the back of the trailer.

I plan to make the anti-rotation device from a couple of pieces of channel iron as discussed below.
And yes, the TSC guy was pretty clueless. He first went to the trailer hitches (for autos & trucks) after I told him several times it was for a tractor!

Thanks for all the advice! I'll let ya'll know how the hayride goes!

What works really well is to have a 3 point implement made or buy a 3 pt bale spear, and have a receiver hitch put in. This allows you to have a stable system, plus you can raise & lower a trailer at the tounge with your hydraulics. Having a bale spear that you can bolt in & remove is also a plus. Mike

My TSC has one on the shelf right now. I would go to a different store.

Actually they are really easy to make as others have said. If you have so steel strap and a drill you can make one easily. Bolt one end of strap to drawbar and run other end over lift arm. Use a ubolt or j bolt and attach strap under lift arm so drawbar cannot turn.

I made one years ago. I used a piece of 3 inch channed and ran it from the hitch gismo under rear of my 8n to draw bar and let it extend back a few inches out past the draw bar. I trimmed away any excess metal in way of hitch under tractor and at draw bar. I also put 2 padeyes on the channel iron so the top link could come down and connect to hold the drawbar height steady. I cut a hole for trailer ball in very end of channel where it jutes out past the draw bar. The further back the ball is located the better the trailer will go around corners without cutting them short but will make wheelies more likely.

If you don't have down pressure on your 3pt you might want to look into stay bars too. If you don't kown try liftin it up by hand when in the down position. Sure would hate to hear you had a close call when the trailer tounge and 3pt ride up on ya.

How are stay bars going to stop it from lifting up?

All that they will do is stop it from swinging from side to side.

Ben - Sway bars (or anti sway bars) are what you are thinking of. They connect from the end of the lift arms to under the axle trumpets.

Stay bars on the other hand connect from the lift arms up to the same place that the toplink connects to the tractor forming a triangle and locking the height of the 3 point lift. Stay bars are adjustable so that different heights may be accomodated. When using stay bars don't operate the 3 point lift or you'll bend or break something.

Nope, been down the 'duh why didn't I think of that' path myself. :)

Va lu - Bi lt sells the anti-spin stablizers as well. Most likely the hold-down bars too.

You can bolt a short chain from a regular swinging drawbar (if you have one) onto the 3pt drawbar & really helps too, allows some movement of the 3pt but keeps it from ramming upard & hurting someone. That is a serious concern with just using the 3pt bar as a hitch.

Over at www. tr ac to rby net. com they are selling a 3pt device that has a reciver tube, kinda neat, can look at it & build your own if you are handy.

Yep there is such a device. Believe it is Speeco. Goes over flat drawbar and over pin on one side with ear over 3 point linkage or similar. I made another version by bolting brackets on the ends of the flat bar that taper up to the top link. Mine works good but is heavier than you normally need. Check someone who normally handles Speeco brand, then they may ve available from Northern Tool also.
