I plan on planting soybeans next spring on 10 acres.
I have an old pull type combine with a Scour Kleen. I plan to plant a variety where I will have the option of saving seeds.
Two questions.
Will the Scour Kleen clean the seeds well enough to be used for planting without further cleaning.

Second, I am having trouble finding a variety that is not Roundup Ready and protected by patents. Where should I go to seek old time "save your own seed" type soybean seed?

FYI
The variety "Vinton 81" is non GMO and is Japan's favorite Tofu soybean. Here in Iowa a local elevator pays $2.50 over the Chicago Board of Trade. Check out your local elevators to find a program if you are interested.
I would use a fanning mill to remove the splits and trash unless you are planting with seed cups and then just about anything will feed through.

Albert Lea Seedhouse, Albert Lea, MN has non-GMO soybeans. Otherwise try for a clear hilem or certified organic bean.

You will probably need a fanning mill to clean out the bits of straw and unshelled beans. Sieves and winnowing will also work. If there are not too many broken beans, just plant them.

It has been a long time since I was around a Scour Kleen. Ido remember it takes out weed seed. I think you will still need to clean your seed. A cleaner will take out small and large foreign material as well as cracked beans. I save beans with a combine with "cut outs" to let weed seed out. I use a "Clipper" fanning mill to clean the seed. Getting non-GMO seed is getting harder. Most dealers offer limited supplies of non-GMO seed. The best thing to do is find it now and reserve it for spring. It is out there.
