New Idea Flail-Type Manure spreader

One of these is coming up for auction next week. This looks like a regular box spreader but instead of the beaters on back, it has chain flails. This one is in very good shape. I"ve seen old ads for them, and I"ve seen a couple of around old dairy farms, all rusted out, but have never seen one run. Would this thing spread egg shells? I can get egg shells cheap as a soil amendment/conditioner, but if you stockpile them, they get lumpy, making them hard to spread with a fertilzer/lime buggy. Was thinking the flail might solve that problem?

We have a New Idea 205. It has big iron swinging beaters. Lots of clumpy straw is a problem but otherwise it will pulverize most anything.

My bro-in-law had one for a few years. It would spread ANYTHING. My guess is that it would do a fine job on egg shells.

I've got a local restaraunt saving eggshells and coffee grounds for me. We put them on our garden ground. (via a compost pile) They have done wonders for the old hard clay ground. John
