Info needed for a Lincwelder 225, portable

I just aquired a portable welder and have a question about it that I thought maybe one of you could help me with. First of all, it"s a "Lincwelder 225 DC Arcwelder with AC Aux Power". Model #DC-225/3-AS. One of the things it needs is new batteries. When taking the old batteries out, I noticed that they were wired for 24 volts. Seems like a lot of starting power for a two cylinder engine to me and was just wondering if anyone out there would happen to know if this is correct. Not sure how old the welder is, but according to the former owner, he thinks he bought it in the mid 60"s. If anyone knows where I might get a manual for it, that would be great too! Any info would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance folks!

Ron, I have a gas powered lincoln welder also. Mine is a different model but the lincoln guys are real helpfull. Get all you model numbers and serial numbers together and email the lincoln site. They will answer all your questions. I got the manufacture date and info on parts from them. When I asked about getting new decals cause I had painted my unit they sent me out new ones for free. Real nice people at lincoln.

Thanks for the info Richard. Some good things to know. Appreciate it. I really want to get this welder all fixed up. It's in pretty good shape to begin with. Far as I can find out, it only has about 2 or 3 hundred hours on it, so it's well worth fixing up. Mostly cosmetic fixing, but a few functional items from sitting. Thank again.

I had such a Lincoln and it was 24 volys. I am not sure of the model number. It had an Onan engine and it did not have a starter motor but used the coils of the welder to start it. This is the reason of the 24 volts. The batteries did not have to be in very good shape to get it to start. The batteries were the long type. One day one of the workers boosted it to start and some way got the engine running backwards. Blew out oil from the air cleaner.

Thanks for your reply John. I did find the manual at the Lincoln website as you suggested. This welder is listed in the manual as having an "optional" electric start using two batteries. But it doesn't say anything about the starter voltage or battery hookup order. Since the electric start is an "option", I don't think that the pull start version had any batteries. So no help on that issue from the manual. But at least I do have the manual now! Maybe someone else will have this answer for me. Thanks again.

I have this same welder and it is a very good machine. The reasone for the twenty-four volts, and the well over one hundred cranking amps is because the generator stator is used as the starter. Also, if you know of anyone that has parts for an Onan cck/ccka engine for sale, I would love to hear from them. The welder was my father"s welder, and he gave it to me. I have been tring to rebuild the engine because I messed up the valve seat on an intake tring to get both cylinders to fire. I have bought a new engine block, gasket set, flywheel, and timing gear cover. I broke the flywheel and timing gear cover while tring to pull the flywheel; talk about expensive, $348.00 for the flywheel, $210.00 for the block, $20.00 for the cover, $70.00 for the gaskets. I might have been beter off buying a new miller trailblazer for $3200.00. I still need a Magneto coil, as I broke mine with the flywheel destruction, and a full set of vales (4). Part numbers are 160-075 (magneto coil) and 110-0881( intake) 110-0880 (exhaust). Thank you.
