hay question

I've got an 80 acre pasture in Western Washington that we allowed a guy to hay this last season. The hay quality was low because of a relatively high abundance of Canada Thistle and because the hay was cut very late due to wet weather. The deal we had with the hay guy was that he would supply us with 10 tons of horse quality hay in return for all of the hay off the field.

We are contemplating some arrangement for next year and the hay guy is urging me to spray the field to knock down the thistle and then he will try to get two cuttings of good quality hay off the field. My questions are:
1) how many tons would you expect to get off of 80 acres in western washington?
2) what we be a fair deal to work out with the hay guy? I am not interested in getting hay this time around, so what would be a reasonable dollar amount and how would you structure the agreement? 3) Also, what herbicide would you use? I've been told that now actually isn't a bad time to spray, and I've been advised that spraying would probably be on the order of $15-20 per acre for chemical and labor. What are your thoughts?

1) Yields vary not only by region but even from one end of the field to the other at times. I don't know if there is an answer to that one.
2) Ask around to see what goes in your area. I don't do this type of thing. People in my area give me ALL the hay in return for getting it cut down and I do one heck of a job making it look good and haul off everything...good and bad.
3) Watch AgPHD (better farming thru chemicals)on RFD channel this week. They have canada thistle as their weed of the week.
