Hello all,
I just inherited a Freeman loader with a trip bucket. I cannot find a name tag or model number on it. Is it possible to do away with the trip mechanism and install a hydraulic cylinder to tilt the bucket?

Thanks for any info

CJ

We have a Freeman manual trip loader that was purchased by my father in 1954 for our Ferguson TEA ($150.)Loader has been on three tractors since and has been on my Super Dexta since 1963. We've done every job you could imagine with that manual bucket and really wouldn't think of changing it to hydraulic (a conversion kit was available through the manufacturer). In the meantime, we've worn out two buckets ,two sets of teeth and just this year, replaced the bucket again with one from a Ford one arm loader (bolted right up).

It is easy to do if you use two cylinders instead of one. First of all, you need a hydraulic valve that will run a two-way cylinder, not just a one-way, like might be on the boom. After that, it is just a matter of determining where the pivot points are, and how long the cylinders must be. If you mount them alongside of the bucket, a short pair will do. Behind the bucket, you might need cylinders with 20-22 inch stroke or so. I rebuilt a Paulson loader many years ago, used on a reversed AC WD, and with the cylinders behind the bucket, with a quik-tach mounting system, needed 22 inch stroke cylinders to accomplish the task.

Yes it is but its not easy to do and do it right. Takes a lot of figureing to make it work as it should. I did one this summer and have one in the shop setting it up now.

It's possible to do it to the loader. Is that something your tractor can handle?
