IH 37 twine knife question

Hello, I have a question about the twine knife on a 37 IH baler. I have a knife not wanting to cut on one side. The knife has been sharpened a bunch and needs to be replaced.It is the standard knife you find in the service manuals. The baler that I'm stripping parts off of has a knife that has a little razor blade that is fastened by a little screw (nice idea).Is this something that is aftermarket or did IH change the old style of knives over to these? If so, can you still get them from Case/IH? Thanks.

I wasn't able to get the old style knives at my dealer. I have commonly seen the razor edge attachment on many balers, you just have to add spacers where the knife attaches to the knotter frame to get the placement of the cutting edge correct.

Hi, many years ago we had an IH 46 baler that had the regular twine knives that you could sharpen but we found after a couple sharpenings the knife would not keep an edge anymore. One time we were at the IH dealers buying a set of new knives and the parts man says there is a new knife available with replacable blades like a razor. We purchase a set and some spare blades. These replacement knives were much better as they held an edge much longer and it was a 10 minute job to replace them.

Scott,
My 37 has the same knife on it. I can still get them from IH-Case Dealer. My manual says that they can be sharpened but, I just replace them. It does make a differance. The twine makes a differance also. As your other post asked. I had nothing but problems with TSC twine. I think it was the 9000 lb. (Was yellow) I had pretty good luck with the Green 7200 I think. I am going to get twine from IH-Case Dealer next season.
