This is the first year that my husband and I have done our own haying. First cut went really well. We are having a lot of trouble with the second cut jamming in the pickup of the baler (New Holland 276--worked great up to now). The hay tangles around the tines and doesn't make it to where the forks move it into the hay chamber. I noticed that the hay is much leafier than on the first cut and wondered if having lighter material with less stiff stems might be part of the problem. Does anyone have ideas how to deal with this? Thanks! Bets

HI

Bets n Lee

We have that trouble with Our AC 444.

Try to feed the hay on the right sight of pick-up. A heavier row will work, but if you are cutting shorter hay. Which i do allot that is hard to do you loose more than you gain. Make sure the metal is straight and teeth are set right, pick-up hieght may so change this.

We stop about every 20 bales or so and clean it out. Watch for noise the teeth make a funny slapping sound if it get build up too much.

Have A Good One !!

I read some where about spraying armorall on the pickup and the feed table especially when they are rusted and not smooth,so I reied it and let it dry good and it worked, somebody had their thinking cap on. You might try this first before we get into the mechanical problems. HTH

Have you tried lighter or heavier windrows, or changing ground speed of tractor? Worth experimenting with. Haven't noticed the problem with my NH 268, which I think is basically the same pickup!
