What part numbers can you cross reference to get the model number of an old jd hay mower. I have been told it is probally a #9, as it has a wooden pitman arm, but I checked with the local Deere store and was told more than one model had wooden pitman arms. This has the old deer jumping logo and a single back tire. How does this hook up and what would be a reasonable asking price once I repaint and clean it up. I hear they are as reliable as you can get. Any pictures of one with all parts in working. post address or email me thanks.

go to www.equinox.shaysnet.com/~rainbow

Search around in "Antique Implements" and you will find a #5 mower picture series.

If it has a back wheel, it's not a #9 but rather #5 or a #8. I have a #5 with the "quik-tache" hook-up that I use on my "A". If the rear tire is on the right side, it's probably a #5 if the tire is on the left side it's a #8. Most can be had for $100-250. If they are in great shape maybe more, but there were alot of JD mowers made so break the bank on buying one. You can get many parts and manuals still today from your JD dealer. I restored my #5 and it looks great with the tractor. Good luck!
