The last time I used this machine, I had a jam and a roller chain broke. It is a small chain, on the far side of the haybine and i guess it drives one of the rolls. I picked up a repair link, put things back together and the chain appears to be too loose. I am surprised there is no idler. It looks like there may be some eccentric adjustment on the roll sprocket but I loosened the bolts on that side and was unable to budge it. I thought maybe I was being too picky and went ahead and ran it loose. I managed to get the field finished but every so often the chain would be thrown from the sprocket and have to be put back on. I tried taking a link out but then it is too short. It is about 1/2 link out of sync. I need some ideas, please help.

Thjanks in advance,

Jeff

Jeff, this is common. You are correct in your assessment on tightening the chain, but PLEASE don't bother! Go buy a new chain (not very costly) and your problem will be solved. Again, don't even bother to try to tighten the chain because the eccentric many times gets tight. Steve

Agree with Homer. Our 479 Has to be adjusted (ie chain tightened) from up in underneath.

You could put a half link in it.

My man, you may be suffering from "chain link stretch". Never thought about it but was doing what you're doing on my round baler. For some reason I decided to replace the whole chain (about 10 long), wasn't all that expensive.

Anyway, laid the chains side by side to get the exact length and whadda ya know. The links didn't match up. Investigation revealed significant stretching.

No idler that I am aware of (Haybine 489).

Mark
