Home Made Ditch Bank Cutter

Need to cut some ditch banks and brush at field edges. Have looked at some three point side mowers and after picking myself up from the sticker price shock, have decided to make my own.

Has anyone made or seen a homemade ditch bank cutter? Any plans? I�m looking to cut two inch stuff.

I think I can use something like a four foot bush-hog (do they make these � I have seen lots of five foot models, but can�t remember seeing a four foot one), place a hydraulic motor on it for motion (any suggestions for brand, size or shock capability), build a three cylinder articulating arm with breakaway capability and some type of control panel for control (any ideas here would be a big help). This would all be placed on a three point setup. Any ideas?

My tractor is a JD 5310 (about 55 HP). It has lots of hydraulic capability and has something called �power beyond� which I use on a back-hoe hookup.

I am open to all ideas and thoughts. This will be this winters project.

Weight it, and make a big bucket with the same weight in it to bolt on the other side of your tractor. You see those counterweights on road mower tractors all the time. It's there for a reason.

What about removing bucket from hoe and mounting to back hoe arm and swing it back and fourth and up and down ditch banks etc. Most of mounting frame already complete

using the B/H mounting is a good idea , but i would love for a cheap safe alternative idea. that maybe i could borrow .

Saw pictures of someone who took an old push mower, mounted it on an arm from the 3 pt hitch and used it to mow his pond banks.

He raised and lowered the 3 point to adjust plus a hydro cylinder in a joint in the middle.
