Can anybody tell me what the differences are between a 676 spreader and a 679? Technically I have a 676 "S". What does the "S" denote?

Dale, good question. There is an 676 and a S676. The S stood for "Super". The S676 was the first New Holland spreader with a "worm drive" apron gearbox. However, it is different then the 679 gearbox. There are several differences between S676 and 679. The box (distance between the sides) on a 679 is about 2 1/2" wider. The front of the floor is cut back a little farther on the 679. The front idler sprockets are bigger. The 679 endgate cylinder is in the back where the 676 is up front. But the big thing is all parts for a 679 are still available because they are almost identical to the current 185. Some parts on the 676/S676 are beginning to be discontinued. Steve
