I'm looking at a NH 273 baler. I live in NE Indiana. I'm intrested in information on price(asking $1000), if this is a good model, and with what JD model it would compare to. As for being a "good" model I have heard that there are a couple of NH models to stay away from, but I can't remember the numbers. Also I'm a little more familiar with JD balers so a comparable JD model would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

I think the NH 273 is a great baler. The JD 24T is another. In my neck of the woods, both would fetch $1K easily.

Nice thing about the NH and JD balers is that there are a bunch of them around - that means new and used parts AND lots of help here!

Good luck,
Bill

I baled over 10,000 bales this summer with my NH275 which is very similar to the 273 and it ran like a sewing machine---no snags. Good luck with your 273. JP Kirsch NY

I've got a 273NH baler. Great baler, never misses a bale unless the knot where you tied two balls of twine together comes up in the wrong spot. Like someone else mentioned-lots of parts available. You can still get parts and operators manuals from your New Holland dealer. Not as high of capacity as the newer balers, but then the price is right!

I am not sure how it compares, because once I got my 224T JD baler I never needed to look around again. The 24T is pretty much the same, I understand, as the 224T and there are a lot of them about. Good balers, especially since you like JD. Price varies but I paid $900 for mine and it is very clean.

You wouldnt be hurting for parts. There are about a zillion 273 balers out and about. Probably the most popular model of that serious. New Hollands are generally good balers, with a few dogs in between. It really depends on how much baling you intend to do as to the capacity you'll need and if you're feeding the bales right there on the farm or trucking them around the globe. I still use a New Holland Super 69 and it runs like a top. There are a few great posting in the archives that give the run down on New Holland balers. Check through them. They are a great help!
