As I was finishing up my baling for the year one of the knotter frames broke in half. I don't know what caused it but I had to borrow a baler to finish. It is a Claas and boy does it bale hay.
My dad has a 14T for parts and I think the knotter off it will work but someday it will run out of parts. I have asked before where can I order parts without going to the local dealer who isn't interested in hay equipment? I e-mailed another JD dealer 120 miles away to inquire about parts but got no response. I guess they don't want my money either. Information would be appreciated.

Hey old,
Where in MO are you? I'm from Carthage. Are you parting these out or selling them complete?

Mark

Emailing anyone is a shot in the dark for the most part, the dealer you emailed should have a toll free number, a phone call is much better than an email in alot of cases or probably most cases. You might keep an eye out on ebay as well. I know there is a 14T or a 24T on there now(possibly 2)

Get a parts book for the baler (as the online parts catalog system doesn't go back that far), and sign up for jdparts.com. Then you can order all parts that are still available youself (sent to the dealer). You shouldn't cause them too much stress, if you only come in to pick up the parts.

I think you may be able to find a used 24T knotter frame if you look around. I"ve never heard of a 24T to break their knotter frame, but I know that some of the 14T balers broke or cracked their knotter frames where the bevel gear comes through the knotter frame on the right side because I have one that did!

My 14t has been brazed and appears to be holding.

You might try to have your knotter brazed back together. Be sure to get someone who know something about working with cast iron though. If done right, it should work out. You may save some $$ too.

JD has an online parts department that I use for looking up cost on #5 mowers. Just a thought.
