Can you put the new style guards like on the 451 on the 450? Thinking about changing them out instead of replacing the ledger plates. What year were these mowers made and were they a good model? Can you buy the ledger plates and the old style guards? And how do the ledger plates come out? Thanks

Yes, you can buy the old style guards, but there is no ledger plate to be replaced. Also, the double guards do fit on your 450, and in my opinion are better. However, I reccommend that if you are replacing all the guards, replace them with haybine guards. If you do, you can elimminate the 26616 wear plate directly under each hold down clip. This is a much simpler and nicer setup. I personally dislike those wear plates. One more thing. You 450 cutterbar has 27 holes drilled for guards. Later 451 bars had 28 to accomadate an even number. You will have to take one guard and cut it in half. This does work real well. Steve

You say to replace them with haybine guards,what is the part number of those guards and why are they better? Will they cut grass hay better and or they more expensive? OOps I meant only one question. Thanks

Ok, good questions. The current part number is: 86615982. The old number was 219191. When I said better, it was only because of the idea of getting rid of the wear plates under the hold down clips. As far as double pointed guards, mower guards (part number 219190) are as good as haybine gaurds. BUT, if you use 219190 mower guarsd, you MUST use the 26616 wear plates under the hold down clips. That is what I am trying to encourage you to eliminate. Steve
