I am cosidering putting up some big bale silage. I heard that you can wrap round bales individually with a three point mounted wrapper(see attached link) and then jam them together to form an air tight seal for balage. Has anyone had any experience with this kind of method for making baleage. Most people I have seen only use this kind of wrapper on dry hay. And they seem to have mixed results with that. This would seem to be a cheap way to wrap baleage if it works. There are no custom wrappers in my area and I can not justify an expensive inline wrapper. Any oppions would be graetly appreciated.

looks like a joke to me. I think all the small eastern farmers should move to the "West, where everythings best" and let that wet country go back to trees.

riiiight, and then when the next big drought comes we can all starve in the blowsand together . . . . I like being able to grow corn without using up the groundwater, anyway.

Nebraska cowman....Back off jack! Seems to me us small eastern farmers didn't have a dust bowl either. Hmm... you can take your opinion and cram it up you @$$!!! No need to be a dick on here but if that's what you want bring it.

What??

Don't you want all that scrap plastic scattered all over your feed yard? Just think of the savings and the added nutritional value of the thing; er, well, maybe..... .. :>)

I've been wrapping for 4 years and thought about what you describe. Seems like a good idea but I cant imagine getting the rolls so square that there wouldnt be an exposed end and that will let air (and rot) into the entire tube. I have enough trouble keeping air out with an inline.

Has anyone used one of these kinds of wrappers for dry hay with good results?

Only a tried a regular inline for dry hay, sorry. Makes good dry hay if the moisture is right. A little on the wet side (up around 20%) and it gets a little slimey on top. Wetter still into low end of silage range gets a strong sweet odor (ethanol fermintation) smells good but cows wont eat it much. Get dry hay down to 15% or less and it makes fine hay, with only 2 layers of plastic.
