Remember, there is no unimportant piece of equipment. It all has a job to do and must perform well when called upon.
Find a way to put it all in the shed or cover it good. It will really pay off in the long run.
You might put the heavier equipment on blocks to help save your tires.

Drowned in used motor oil after a complete cleaning and grease good like others said. But a cheap tarp is better than nothing. just stack bales on it to hold er down.

All my hay stuff is out side all year, wish I had a shed but I don't. I don't trap them either since the tarp doesn't last till spring. But and heres the key to leaveing them out side. Grease the $#%^ out of every thing oil the chains the same way and all other moveing parts. Then in the spring before you even hook it up to a tractor. Regrease every thing and reoil every thing. I've done thins for 20 years and so far I haven't had any problems.

Rubber roofing works better and lasts longer then plastic tarps. You should be able to pick up pieces at auctions. I usually pressure wash, grease, oil (especialy the baler chains) and cover with rubber. The only thing I don't have room for inside as far as haymaking equipment is the haybine.

Heck,

Just park it and forget it; it'll be there next spring no worse for wear.

I've never known anyone to put haying equipment inside. Except for the hay baler, it does need to spend the winter under a roof. If you don't have a shed for it, get one of those cheap plastic tarps at wally world.

Oh no, no, no, no, no.....

Park the rake outside if you will, but throw a tarp on her and make sure the tires aren't in full sun.

Park your mower outside if you have to, but definitly put a tarp over it to keep the sun from eating the paint.

Your baler? Buy a REALLY good tarp and put it OVER the cheap tarp. Clean all the crud out of the chute and the notter area. I have a seperate small tarp that goes over this area. Tie it all together real good and then block the sun from your tires.

You will regret it if you do not take care of your equipment. Sun is a bigger enemy than rain and snow.

Must agree with Dave on this one. Take the time to clean it well, lube it better, and cover it with quality tarps, canvas if possible. Nothing worse than dealing with rusted parts from hay holding moisture. I have two haybines, and a round and square baler. They don't sit out overnight. Rakes are lubed well and covered for winter. I don't like faded paint either.

Dave, It may be awhile. I'm 25 years old, and hope to be doing this farming thing for a time yet. Thanks for the compliment though!

The blower and bushhog live outside here. Luckily the balers, mower, rakes and tedders live inside.

Some neighbours leave their balers out open all year but they usually have broken equipment too.
