What to do with weedy hay

Took a 2nd cutting off timothy/orchard grass mix. It was just leaf growth so I guess you would call it grass hay. It had some jimson weed, horsenettle and groundcherries in it. My weed book says they are all toxic to livestock. I sell mostly to horse people. Do you think these weeds will be a problem? It is nice looking hay and the old Int #46 did make nice looking bales this time, but in this day of liability I would not want to poision someones horse. Thanks, John

Don't worry about it feed it to older cows they will pick thru it and eat what they want.

Good old regular cattle (beef cows) will enjoy it as well. Depends on if you have any such near you.

I agree horse folks will be pretty finiky about it, might not be worth the hassle for that market.

Can't talk about the liability, but in my experience the horse folks won't buy it or will want you to take it back later if they do.

However, my goats don't seem to mind that kind of hay at all. They just sift through it and grab what they like and ignore the rest...I'm not sure about other livestock.

You might could also sell it as bedding or, as a last resort, as mulch hay--around here it goes for about $1 a bale as mulch, which is at least better than a sharp stick in the eye and I don't see any liability issues with mulch.
