I was shocked to see someone baling hay, using a MF big round baler, pulling it with an old Ford 9N.
The bales looked to be normal sized and the tractor seemed to be moving right along....
I didn't think a tractor that small in weight and horsepower could handle a big round baler, what am I missing here?

I used a Vermeer with an AC-WD. The dealer turned the baler gear box 90 degrees to set it up for a 1000 RPM PTO. The baler turned slowly, but I had plenty of torque to run the baler. Not the best set up, but it worked.

25 PTO HP would pull a 504C but for safety reasons it is not recommended.

It might have been an older Vermeer 504C that they made for massey. I know folks that pull them with 35 fergusons but never heard of and 8N. On the other hand if you rigged up some hyd. lines and turned up the power I guess it would work.

Although a Funk flathead 6 or V8 conversion would give it the HP, I doubt an old N would have the hydraulics for a round baler. Wonder if the baler had been modified with its own engine and hydraulic system? It has been done . . . .

Could it have been an 800 eries Ford? Or an N with a v-8 or whatever they do with them?

It was an older baler, but it did not have any modifications or an extra engine, and the tractor was definitely stock.
It seems to me that a round baler would twist the PTO shaft right off that old Ford, but it was obvious that that was what the guy uses regularly. He had 150 - 200 bales tied and was still going at it!
