I just closed the deal on a 2 row #71 flex planter. Going tomorrow to pick it up. I'll be using it to plant greenbeans and sweetcorn, plus a couple acres of "food plot" for a friend. I'm looking for any info on using them. What plates do I need? How accurate are these planters? Are parts still available from Deere? (I know Deere sold the design) Who is it that now sells them? Thanks in advance. John

The planters can be adjusted to to plant just about any rate you want. Changing the sprockets will change the drive ratio and the number of seeds per foot. Lincoln Ag has a bunch of different plastic plates that you can use to modify your population, depending on the seed that you are using i.e. round, flat, small, shrunken, etc.

Our local JD dealer still has the manuals and parts as of this spring.

Thanks Paul. I contacted Yetter, and got a swift reply. They will be carrying on the John Deere "legacy" with the model #71 planter. I'm going to have a number of seed plates shipped to me, and I will also hook up with their reps when they're in town for the National farm Machenery Show, in Feb. I've got a number of deere hunters in the area interested in my planting food plots for them next spring. I'll be looking at turning the #71 planter into a small "no-till" planter. John

I was just wondering if the Model 71 could be converted to no-till. If you could elaborate on how to make this conversion i would appreciatte it.

Working on that right now! I'll post on here when I've completed my "field trials'. Looks like adding weight to the toolbar, increasing down-pressure, via the springs for that purpose, and adding coulters in front of the disc openers. I'm looking at building a 4 row, 20" planter for no-tilling soybeans in a couple "remote fields" that I farm. John
