Stand in front of the rake. Look at the bearing. You should see a flat plate; if not pick the very center of where you can picture the bearing to be mounted. Looking around back at the location of the bolt could help locate center.....doesn't have to be perfect. If drilling the flat plate, it is only .020 or so and you drill thru it pretty fast. If cast (like the bar it'self), it'll be thicker. Once the drill bit clears the cover, there is a gap before the drill hits metal again. Stop there. I think mine is 1/4-20, but not sure. Get a zirk and measure. Use only the small nipple, no angles, elbows, big fat agricultural types or any of that. Grease until you see grease coming out between the bar and the star support. You'll probably be surprised at how much water you push out in the process. Grass does not hang up on this and your rake will last indefinitely. I do it to a rake as soon as I buy one (had a bearing rust off one time and after replacing it I said never again). I give the same treatment to so called "permanently lubricated" tie rod ends.
