I was wondering if any body still makes a flail silage chopper to cut grass silage?

I once used a Hesston #10 Stackhand to make grass silage.
I took the flails, which were wore considerably, and turned them around. They could be replaced by the paddle type flails such as the cutditioners used to use, this I have to research. I thought it cut the grass pretty well. The problem came when I tried to unload it. I broke the apron chain.
I should of added bars to the chain and used the slippery lining that they sell to line dump trucks to the floor and sides of the Stackhand.
The experimenting continues. If you're interested I'll keep you posted. If I can get the bugs out this will work as well as the lascerators/wagon set ups I've seen sell for $20,000 or more.

Please keep me posted on how this works out. I did not hide my email address so you can contact me directly. Is this a machine that leaves the movable stacks that look like a loaf of bread? I am in Shelbyville, Ky. Thanks , Sam

I have one at work. It's called a Lacerater. It came from Texas. I could get you the guys name and number if you want. It cost $5,000 for a good used 6 ft. They can be 3 pt. or pull type.

Gruett's in Potter, WI makes some. I've seen them in their back yard, they almost look like they hook onto the 3 pt. I'm sure their is another part to the hitch that I didn't see that it hooks on like a normal chopper.

You can find them on the Agco Locator

They hook right on to the drawbar and follow straight behind the tractor. It is a simple machine in that the flails are the only moving parts (no blower) They throw the feed right up and into the wagon.

New Holland makes a new model #38 crop chopper and John Deere makes a new #720(?) Flail chopper.

It is a JD #972, not 720.
