Planting Speed for NoTill

I am going to rent a notill for the first time this week. How fast can I plant with one? I will be fighting daylight, so I want to go at optimum speed so that I dont have to plant in the dark.

Was drilling triticale last night just under 8 mph with a Haybuster 10' notil drill. Will be everynight the rest of the week too.

Boy am I mad. Had the drill rented for last Sat, but we got 4 inches of rain...I called on Sat to cancell and they said no problem just give us a call next week it wont be any problem since you need it in the evening. I called today, and now they said the soonest I can have it is Sept 28, even though I had an appointment for last Sat. So much for honoring the rained out appointments before you make new ones....

Ouch, what are you planting? Sept 28 doesnt sound too bad for wheat unless you are way north in PA (and maybe not then). Should be plenty ok for rye or triticale.

No good way to deal with rain outs that I know of. The county I live in has 2 drills (1 at each farm store; Farm Bureau owns one and the COnservation Dist the other). They do a day sign up, if you cant use it you lost it and have to get back on the list. County where I farm mostly has 9 drills with the Conservation Dist. They pretty mch let you have it until you get finished or someone else calls wanting it and all are out (then they expect a 10 acre per day minimum avg over the days you keep it).

I am in central Pa(Lancaster County). I was going to plant grass for pasture, but its pretty late for grass. Is it a waste of seed to try to plant this late? Maybe I should just plant rye, and then try the grass in the spring. I really want to get the grass in, but i dont want to waste the seed...

And this would be a drill maybe? Odd time to plant beans or corn I would guess. What crop you planting, what seed rate, what brand of seeder, how bumpy is the ground, and how much trash is on the surface?

A manual with the rental should give you some guesses anyhow.
