Steve, and others:
Purchased a used NH 268 Hayliner. Works pretty well, put up over 2500 bales with it this summer. when I was cleaning it up to put away for the winter, I removed hay from the bale chamber. Noticed that there are 3 feed dogs on the top of chamber, under the knotters, but there's only two on the bottom of the bale chamber - one on the right, one in the center. Wondering why there aren't three like on top. Bottom center is missing, so that's on the agenda to replace before next season. Did a great job without it, but probably really should be replaced. Anyway, why only two unevenly spaced on bottom?

Thanks,Steve - that's about waht I figured. will definitely replace missing one before next season. Gave her TLC and put her up for the winter: Removed all the hay I could, power washed, greased up everything and sprayed down knotters with light oil. She gets to stay inside this winter!

Ray, good observation. The dogs keep the hay that the plunger pushes from "springing" back front again. The far left side of the older balers never quite had as much hay delivered over there, so the need was not as critical as on the cut off knife side. However, the newer balers are using 6. Steve
