The trouble with balers built by companies that did not sell all that many of them, like the Allis Chalmers 303, the Massey Furgeson balers, the Oliver Baler, the CASE baler and probably just about ANY baler that does not either say JOHN DEERE or NEW HOLLAND on the side of it, is that they are by now, long out of production, and NOBODY in any of the surviving dealerships has much of anything like the expertise and experience in repairing or adjusting these balers any more. Just about ANY John Deere baler, all the way back to a 14T can still be EXPERTLY repaired by technitians who are still KNOWLEDGEABLE and EXPERIENCED in their care. This is also perfectly true for ANY NEW HOLLAND baler, all the way back to balers built in the 1950's! Parts for either New Holland OR John Deere are no problem either. Of course, if you buy a nearly new baler, say a Hesston or a CASEih, those balers can easily be serviced too, but you mentioned a I suppose 35 year old Allis Chalmers 303! My advice is: visit an AGCO ALLIS dealership, and talk to their service manager. Ask that person if he can get parts and when was the last time anyone in his shop even saw an AC 303, let alone worked on one! I think, that for an exhibit, at a tractor show, a restored, properly painted and decaled 303, paired with an appropriate AC tractor of about the same year would look fabulous! You'd get lots of appreciative comments. People would take pictures. Just find something else to go baling with, IMHO!
