Forgive me if this is an improper posting for this forum. I am not very experienced with tractors or related activities, so please forgive my ignorance.

My father has a 1978 Case rubber-tired backhoe loader, and I am not sure of the model (I have a S/N beginning with 009178***). He wants to see if it is possible to mount a rotary mower onto the bucket end of the backhoe, to allow him to bush hog in hard-to-reach areas, etc. He thought that an electrical motor might be able to drive the mower, but I figure hydraulics is the way to go. It will require at a minimum a large reservoir (20-60 gallons I figure), long hoses for manuevering, controls, etc. But I bet it can be done.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to do this, and where I could go for additional information? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Eddie

What you are talking about is commercialy called a boom axe. Do a search for Tiger Mowers and you will find what you want. As far as building your own, anything can be fabricated and plumbed by a COMPETENT mechanic/welder. There are many hydraulicly driven attachments for backhoes, Whether yours has the capacity to run a large hydraulic motor is the question.

at work we have machines called Hydro Ax's. they are like a front end loader with skidder tires, and an eight foot mower on the front that is hydraulicly driven. the hydralic motor is very large and requires up to 50 gallons per miniet. the machine is rated to mow trees and brush up to 7 inches in diametre
