Just wondering if a big 100hp tractor is to much for the 14t. i just wouldnt tie. I am considering trying it again with its old partner in crime the wd.

It was the opposite with the case 200 a 35hp wouldnt bale worth crap went to a 120hp and bailed like a charm.

It's the baler, not the tractor.

Excess power in front of a machine is no problem- that is what shear pins and slip clutches are for. It has nothing to do with the ability of the machine to run properly and tie bales. Your problem is somewhere within the baler.

If the baler doesnt tie, something is wrong with it, not the tractor pulling it.

Well when I used a 14T I pulled it with and 801 ford at 45/46 HP and it did ok and I also used an Oliver 77 which worked even better. The live pto made it work better. As far as HP I think that doesn't make much differance as long as the shear pins etc work right. But if they don't work as they should a 100HP tractor would and could turn a 14T in to scrap metel in a heart beat.

I ran a 14T behind a 4020 for years. I suppose you can have too much hp, but the baler will let you know when you're pushing it too hard. If anything it should bale better because you can keep it at its rated speed/strokes per minute and slow down the groundspeed to keep from overloading the pickup and feed mechanism.

right . when i had my 14 t , the only thing i found wrong with my Wd allis is not enough speeds. in light hay the wd and 14T were fine.but in heavy windrows , different story. of course the baler was wore which didnt help.but i kept plenty of shear pins on hand.
