Bad day today. The 605 super F caught fire and burned up. Must have been a bearing that went and caught the built up hay in the baler on fire. Pointed the tractor into the wind and tried to use the fire extinguisher, but no luck. I unhooked the 4010 and let her burn. I guess this speeds up the new baler plans. Going to look at a NH 664 tomorrow morning.

John

We've had a JD and now we got a 605 C vermeer round baler .The vermeer is alot easier to fix and maintain were as the JD was a pain to fix, The NH is a good baler too my neighbor has one and he's had no major problems in 6 years and he bales about 800 bales a year. They all make hard bales if you bale the right speed and the hays perfect hard to do all the time.

The 605F was 20+ years old and I'll bet still made a rock hard bale. Look at the NH, JD and other balers of the same years. They are in the scrap yard and didn't even make a tight bale of hay when new. Get you another Vermeer and you will have another 20+ years of service while the others brands are rusting in the junk yard.

Awwwww wwh. Baler of choice in N. TX is a green model 535 and B4 that the 530. Has been for 25 yrs that I know of. Nuttin touches it (them). See a few Vermeers, a few NH, and my Hesston (1 ea) which has a 2 gallon spray tank on the apron....if I could get to it to use if I ever had a fire.

The first year of production of the JD535 was 1989 and 1984 for the JD530 round baler. Do the math. The 605F was from 1977-1979. JD has always been playing catch-up in hay equipment. And now the Vermeer 605M has just been released Deere is 10 years behind again.

Where does the 605M fall in line? Thought Vermeer had gone to some different numbering system there for a while, glad to see the # and letter back. Is this a 'regular' model, & they still have that lighter duty model, or is it the other way around?

Red balers are most popular around here, but NH & Case dealers are real close, V dealer is 50 miles away. JD just isn't as popular - mind you there are many around - even with lots of Green tractors around.

Vermeer used to recomend keeping a six pack of can beers on the baler. When they get hot and bounced around all day they gush out when opened, a little liquid at the right time can go along way. Sorry to here your not going to look at another Vermeer, they just introduced the new M baler and it looks good.

In the newer balers like the J you could run 1 less bale of twine and add a 6 pack or maybe a rock box on the front of the tractor if you have one. I think you just have to get creative there. I would not keep in cooler on the tractor, then the hay might not get baled at all, Ha Ha.
The next time you go by your local dealer take a look at that new M, I think you will like what you see.

Guess maybe you will want to spring for a water charged extingusher on the new baler? Or maybe just carry a cheap pump up sprayer filled with water? Sorry for your loss, bob

Stick with a nh and you willnt have any complaints. NH is by far the best out there in my opinion.
