I need a tedder. as a part time farmer, I don't do large amounts of hay, so mostly what I do now to speed up drying is I just rake it a number of times. tedders are just not to be found at a reasonable price. to many people want them. did anyone ever try to alter a rolabar rake to make it spread out a windrow. maybe like removing a few teeth on the leading side to removing most of the teeth on the trailing side. also keeping the leading side a normal rake height and raising the trailing side 4"-8". I can get ford 3pt., old IH, and NI pull type rakes for a couple hundred bucks. any ideas or coments??

International Farm Tool, out of Ohio. I pretty sure its made by Tonutti (looks like their patents) but just has IFT on it. I had a 2 basket IFT I got back in the mid 90's loved it. My 4 basket NI is also a tonutti build and Im not overly impressed. Not any heavier than the 2 basket so a lot of strain on the center gear train.

Where in PA are you? I know of an old IHC rake-tedder for sale, I think the guy wanted $35 for it. It's in Indiana county.

Old New Idea Rollbar roll bar rakes were built as rakes/tedders..... ..I got one that my landlord had. You move a lever and it turns the basket backwards..... ....You drive it over the windrow and it throws the hay backwards. Poor old thing is more than 50 years old but man does it work hay like a dream! I broke a gear on it this spring in heavy clover..... ....We are quiting farming this fall because of the lack of available land, but I am going to keep and restore this old rake(One of the few pieces of equipment I am keeping). People still swear by old NI's here and I am one of them. That old out-dated rake done a H*ll of a job for me!

Just for interest's sake, what would you consider a reasonable price? And what HP tractor are you using it with?

less then $1000. I use a NH256 rake behind a 4000 ford diesel, around 50HP

seems like tedder technology hasn't been around long enough to drop to that price level, at least around here. Good luck in your search, they are a great hay tool to have.

Rick
