I can't remember what year it was ..maybe '57 or '59 but things grew so fast you wouldn't believe it...as a matter of fact I was coming out of the far end of the field with the drill and I met my Dad coming back with the grain binder...no guff! Anything ever happen to you like that????Mike in exeter Ontario

The '50s were good times, that's for sure. In '54 or '55 I tried to grow watermelons for a 4-H project in Indiana. I didn't work out well, as the vines grew so fast that the rinds wore through from dragging on the ground and all the juice leaked out.

Mike I belive that was 58 , I was born that year and by fall I was already tired of baling hay(I grew fast too that is how I know it was 58). Winter wasn't much better cause all the weeds grew just as bad. We cut a patch of sourdock behind the farm and hauled it to the sawmill. Made good lumber- built a nice barn that holds about 10000 bales of hay. sourdock boards are tough also,we used 1"x6" floor joist on 2 foot centers that span 14 feet and it is still straight and true today. But the best part was the huntin, when the pigs started migrating we could shoot all we wanted but you had to be carefull. I shot one and when it came down it put a hole right thru the barn roof, man they land hard.
