I have a 224t Baler and it works and ties knots on dry hay very well, but when I get into a tougher windrow it miss ties. Do I need to loosen the tension or is there an adjustment on the knotter. I really enjoy using this baler, because it usually never misses knots in nice dry hay.

What are your thoughts?

Pete

My 336 would do that (same basic knotter and tension system). Loosen up a few turns on the tension cranks and see if that helps.

The 224T baler is a great and very reliable machine. If you do not already have one, go to your JD dealer and order a manual. This last cutting my baler was missing about one bale in 200. This is a lot by many peoples standards but I used to have more misses. My misses are more random now, but used to come when the windrows were thicker or the hay was heavier. In addition to misses I would get inconsistent sizes and shapes. Make sure you are keeping the knotters free of build up. Check to make sure you have all the fittings greased. It is possible that if you have the grease pump for the knotters that one of the tubes is clogged. The baler will work a lot better if the mechanism is clean and lubed.
If it still misses, the manual starts on page 19 with a lot of troubleshooting tips. My experience was just clean it and make sure it is greased before you start adjusting things. After that the manual will be invaluable.
