I get a lot of comments from on-lookers as to how I cut hay. I watch for a a clear day before a small front is going to pass through with a strong high pressure system behind it. Then I cut the hay and leave it in a swath and let the rain come down right thru it. By next day around 1 PM the hay is pretty well dried and I continue on from there. It gives me an extra day of work and I know the rain is pretty harmless in the beginning but can be problem on the other end.
I think you are fine.

Got caught like that myself, this summer. Rain shortly after you cut probably won't hurt you much unless it is very heavy and causes the hay to mat down. Then it may get moldy on you. If the hay mats down, you may want to go in with a tedder, if you have one, or else, rake it early to fluff the hay up, and plan on a second raking to turn it over after it dries on top. If you can get the hay dry without molding, you probably haven't damaged the quality much.

If it's going to rain on your hay it's much better that it happens when you have just cut it rather than when it's nearly dry ,there is a saying in england ,cut in the rain and you will bale in the sun , guess that sums up our type of weather!

As soon as the forecast clears I try to tedder, while its still wet. Then treat normally.

Now just hope for an extra day to dry (provided you feel no effects from "IVAN")

EB,

I agree with Ron. Just treat it as newly cut hay with a delay.

You're gonna be just fine with this one, 'cause ya didn't get hurt at all.
