Frozen Socket

A socket on one of my 3 pt arms(on a JD3010) is frozen and has been since I bought the tractor. Won't budge. This makes things difficult to attach due to it not being frozen in the ideal position. I've used a 1/2 can of WD-40 and a hammer to no avail. Any tricks that might work?

Are you sure that someone didnt do something silly like weld the wore out ball in place?

If you can get it hooked up to some implement (brush hog or something else not extremely heavy) try SLOWLY pulling that implement around with just the top link and the offending socket hooked up. Backwards and forwards, again, carefully and slowly on level ground. This worked very well for me on the old 560 when I first got it.

Penetrating oil, heat, etc. can both help, but movement should do it.

It has been that way for 6 months(since I bought it) and had a heavy 16ft rotary hoe attached to it and drug over 4 acres. Movement won't do it. I'll try the heat wrench and or the leverage option.....

another thought is to spray the ball with freon (I know enviroment). or to heat the arm and then spray the ball

heat it and then apply candle wax to it or PB Blaster. repeat it should suck a little in each time. WD40 is not for rusted objects

The hammer may have mushroomed it and made the problem worse. Put a big long rod in there and use the leverage to break it free.

Hook it up to something and use it. If that is not working apply the heat wrench or if you do not have access to a torch then Kroil is the best penetrating oil I have ever used. Just keep working it. Once you get it free then grease it good.
