Shims for MF-41 dynabalance mower

Does anyone know how thick the shims that go in between the driven pulley flanges are supposed to be? I have a parts manual but it does not tell the thickness. I have 2 of these mowers and niether one has the shims with it.

According to the 'operator's manual', page 14, "0" shims equates to the maximum speed of the crankshaft to allow maximum 'groundspeed' for cutting. The chart shows the other numbers also, for the MF 135 through MF 180 tractors. Hope this helps.

I have the chart on mine but no shims. Also 0 shims makes the belt ride farther out on the pulley thus gives you the slowest speed not the fastest.

Maybe you have a different chart. This one, circa 1974, clearly shows that as you add shims the crankshaft speed decreases, from 1010 rpm with no shim to 970 rpm with 5 shims -but- by using the 'recommended engine speeds',1980 rpm for no shims vs 1430 rpm with 5 shims, to prevent crankshaft overspeed. If you used standard engine rpm for 540 PTO for all shim settings it would give different results. It also says to store the extra shims on the outside of the pulley to use as a spacer for the cap bolts.

Looks like yours has a different setup than mine. The chart on mine is a decal on the crank head. It reads as follows:

PTO speed (rpm) 540 575 610 650 685 720
----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- -----
no. of shims..... ....5..... .4..... 3..... 2.....1.....0
between flanges

The only split flange is on the head. This chart seems to make sense to me because as you add shims between the flanges on the head end it lets the belt drop further down into the pulley reducing the pitch diameter, thus making it turn faster as long as the drive pulley is unchanged. I may be misreading the chart but a smaller pulley will definitely increase the speed. Also I didn't realize there was so many different pto speeds. Do you by any chance know the shim thickness?
