I've recently bought an old John Deere model 246 planter. It's in fantastic shape for something 52 years old. (Better than me at 47!) I'm looking for a number of seed plates, so I can use it to plant my garden next spring. Anyone have, or know where I can find any? I prefer the "old" cast iron plates, but can make due with the "modern" plastic ones. I can be reached at [email protected] Thanks. John

I am not familiar with that model JD planter.

If it uses the same plates as a 494 or 1240 I think I may have some. These are the plates with that have a big hole that drives near the rim.

I think some of what I have are the cast type but will have to look.

John, try www.lincolnagproducts.com. They're the ones who make the plastic plates for the seed companies, and they sell to individuals too. Jim.

I bought some from deere.. I got the pumpkin one, and it was cast iron...not cheap but will last longer than i will..

Have you checked with a seed corn company.I'll bet most still have some.I used to have a stack about 3' tall.Unfortunately the barn burned down with them in it.Where are you located Indydirtfarmer?
