I thought I had a problem with my baler and asked for help on this board a while back and it turned out it didn't have a problem after all. I was watching the action of the knotters while turning the baler by hand without twine in it, the billhook tounges were hitting the tension bars, but with twine in it they don't,the twine holds them closed. Baled 100 after work today with 5 or 6 misses. 2 because a stick got hung in the tucker fingers, the rest just didn't tie but it's much better than it used to be. Someone else had mentioned the needle brake shoes being expensive, I made some out of half worn out car brake pads, pretty easy and cheap. Still I would like to find a place to get parts other than a dealer. The local dealer doesn't like to mess with hay equipment.

Well Dave I don't bale a lot of hay and just got
this baler from my dad but after several bales it gets better it's when I first start that it misses the most ties.I don't know why but it is always the left knotter that misses and I have been over it with the book and adjusted it to perfectly what it's supposed to be not just close.
Haven't had to do anything to the right knotter and it has never missed except once when the twine broke and twice when a small stick got hung in the tucker fingers,I was baling an old rough field that hadn't been cut in a while.
Oh well for the price I can't complain(free).

Two suggestions: One, you are wearing off the accumulated rust (even if you don't notice it) from the bill hooks with a bit of use, ergo loosen, SQUIRT a bit of Liquid Wrench (R) in it, (The clear stuff, not the spray with all the extra crap in it) move it a few times by hand, then retighten the adjusting nut.
Second, check the key in the shaft and intermittent drive gear for wear. Any movement over a few thousandths shows wear. An oversize key of a couple of thousandths should solve this problem. An ideal tractor to check all this is any one with ground speed PTO. Lowest gear, walk longside it, and notice if both knottergears move at exactly the same time. If they do, only some minor adjustment is usually needed elsewhere, IMO.

I use a 224T baler which is supposed to be a HD version of yours. That's a lot of misses for what is essentially a high quality baler. Mine missed about that ratio when I first used it, but a light greasing of all moving parts in the knotter area and continued use seemed to smooth it out quite a bit. I am down to less than one in a hundred....still too much for professional balers, but OK for me.
