I recently purchased a NH 55 rake and am having problems with the drive wheel staying engaged. When I removed the wheel and hub there was a mangled up spring free floating inside the hub. I can"t tell how the spring is supposed to be connected. Does anyone know or have an illustration, exploded parts view, etc. that would give me a clue?

Both wheels are drive wheels, there is a spring & dog in each side. I'll guess you have the wheel closest to the gearbox off?

Likely the dog is wore down, and/or the hub is worn on the axle shaft.

I went through several springs before replacing the dog as well, but my hub hole is worn & I will soon have issues again.

The spring goes on a bump on the dog, & another bump across from it - was a couple years ago, sorry I am not more exact.

The other wheel should be the same, if it isn't pulling the rake by itself, that one is shot too.

Mark, what Paul told you is correct. However, if you still need a breakdown, email me personally with your fax number and I will send you a schematic. Steve

Steve,

Thanks! I'd like to get the schematic. I probably won't work on the rake for a while but it would be good to have it for when I do. The hub on the wheel next to the gear box is actually broken at the point where the dog should be so evidently that wheel does not drive the rake at all. Since I never plan to take the rake off the farm is it possible to make both hubs be engaged permanently and just use the gear box to disengage the rake?

I don't have your email to send you my fax number. Mine is [email protected].
