I have recently been cleaning up on an old friend's farm for him and taking a lot of scrap metal in to be recycled. I kept back a few oddities that I thought may have a chance of value. I already had to bite my lips and scrap a JI Case and Co. Hay Baler and New Idea corn harvester that had been sitting in the mud past the axles for 20+ years and had no bottoms left (it still made me feel terrible)I kept back the following to try and identify: -one ancient looking Massey-Harris drag plow, iron wheels, two steel levers to raise and lower. Rusty but sound. -one John Deere corn planter, no details because it is covered in vines and I haven't dug it out yet--tomorrow's job. -one Cockshut (470 sounds familiar) manure spreader, ugly but in working condition 7 or 8 years ago, still looks like a grease job and some oil would make it workable as is. -various horse-drawn cultivators and plows with (rotten) wooden handles... -one Allis-Chalmers belly mounted sickle mower, 90% complete (missing the sliding part of the blade and whatever coupled the pulley to the PTO of the tractor) -one wooden sprayer...I had never seen one of these but have been told they are fairly common. The wood is all shot but the frame seems intact, the pump assembly is all dismantled but I think the major components are all there. (Initially I thought I was looking at some sort of steam engine :P until I found the rest of the sprayer frame and a few more parts) This item intrigued me, but I am doubting it has any real value from what I am being told. Does any of this stuff warrant a closer look and/or saving? Or should I truck the whole pile to the scrap and take the quick cash like I was hired to do? I figured the spreader I could make work and maybe the rest up for sale for parts or resto? Can anyone give me any guidance, or tell me what to look for? Thanks! Derek
