changing out old mouldboards/shares for new

I got my new TSC book today. They have only the new plow shares. QUESTION? Can I buy new moldboards and replace them with my old style ones on my steel wheeled plows? Do the new style shares attach to the moldboards only? How much changikng would need to be done to make the switch? Would there be any difficulty in gettting the new ones aligned right so that they would turn over right? Thanks for the answers and the time. Bill

You need to change the whole frog to match the new style wear parts. Depending on the plow, this may be easy or difficult. Neighbor did an old Case 2-bottom plow over with new-style Oliver frogs, now that took some work, but it plowed fine. I think older JD plows with Syracuse bottoms (like 44 and 55) have the same bolt pattern for mounting the frog to the standard as later plows with the HS-series throwaway shares (e.g. F125, F145 models)

I changed my older 3 bottom John Deer plows with Syracuse bottoms for newer 314 model bottoms with no problems. I picked up the frogs at a junk yard but bought new moldboards. Its nice to pay $10 for plow points that can take a rock vs the old Syracuse points that are about $35 and break on every stone they find.
