Can any one help me find information on this plow. The man that we got it from said it was a John Deere single bottom two-way plow that he bought in the late 50's

It is a 2-way ,or hillside plow. plow going east ,for example, then turn around & put other plowshare down & plow west to east.

Although I have not tried it, one may be able to move shares closer together & build a ditch.
I have JD horse drawn with slatts in moldboards horse drawn I use. Slats were for gumbo, theory being less metal for gumbo to stick to.

Hi Joel,

No, the bottoms could not be moved in "close" to make a ditch; this was another implement entirely.

This is a picture of a modern day ditcher from one manufacturer. These started out as nothing more than a wooden, V-shaped frame, which was covered with tin and drawn thru the soil to form a head-ditch.

Later they developed into trailed models; still later into models which could be hooked via a 3 point hitch as this one is.

Regards,

Allan

Thanks, Allan, didn't think so but just threw out to see if anyone tried it. I would not.

I know what a ditcher looks like.
