I'm in the market for a new tedder for alfalfa, and was wondering how those "whirly bird" cheap ones do. Anybody got favorites. We're doing about 22 acres now. Thanx, Larry

I have a Kuhn rake/tedder combo. It is the rotary type. Just tedded some alfalfa this afternoon that had gotten rained on. It has saved my hay crop a couple of times this summer with all of the rain we have gotten. If the weather man says 4 dry days, figure on only 2 dry days. I wouldn't be with out one now. Rotary spreads it out better if it has been in a windrow. The local Kuhn Dealer sold out early on tedders. Wasn't able to refill his inventory this summer. They are becoming more popular in our area.

It is 4th cutting. With all the rain this summer it is hard to get it in with getting wet. Usally get only three cuttings because it turns dry in August. Just sraight south of you. Peru area. I am going to bale today. Tedded Friday and raked it yesterday. Looks to be dry for a couple of days.
Thank goodness for a tedder.

You aren't far away at all. We are about halfway through our 3rd cutting (about 300 total acres) and looks like a 4th cutting on some of the early cut fields will be possible. How is the market down there?

Just finished fourth cutting Sun. Am not sure on the local market as of recently. I sold most of my first cutting out of the field. It had gotten rained on. Took a chance I could get enough out of the next cuttings. I put up all I think I will need for this winter and am debating on whether to sell a couple of loads this winter if it looks like I won't need it.

Those things don't work near as good as a tedder that scatters it out. It may be easier on the crop but with the humidity and weather we have you just about have to be able to spread it out.

My tedder is the most valuable piece of hay equip I have and I've yet to find one that suits me. Seems like every one had something done by an engineer whose spouse left him for an equipment mechanic. I've got New Idea 2417, and love it except when I have to 1. fold it up 2. work on the driveline.

We bought an italian made tedder about 6 years ago and it lasted about 4 years before really falling apart but keep in mind that we do over 300 acres a year and get three cuttings. So it really didn't do too bad. I would think on 22 acres it would last for a long long time.

I use my v Rake to tedder, you can flip the wheels upside down and it will stand the hay up and you can just see it dry .Besides you can do about 30 ft at a pass. The only time i use the tedder is when i get it wet in the windrow or on fresh sown where you get too much dirt.

We have been told that you can use the V-rake like this but haven't figured out how to yet. What gets flipped? The whole arm or just the arms the wheels are on?
