The whole twine wrapping system on my 605F has never worked real well - the twine tensioner has no spring, just solid washers; the top end of the twine tube does not clamp the twine & I believe it should; and the twine runs no where near the flat straight knife blade.

The manual basically totally ignores the twine system other than a parts diagram.

I"d be interested in hearing more.

The twine tie set up on the 605F is not the greatest, but it can be made to work. Your baler has no springs on the twine tension. We have a F and a super F and both have springs holding the tensioner plate. There is a large flat headed bolt that adjusts to clamp the twine at the end of the twine tie tube. It must be ajusted to hold the twine as it is being cut. Check the bushings in the end of the twine cuttting mechanism. Missing or worn bushings may not allow the knife to swing up enought to cut the twine. The last thing to check is the part that holds the actual knife, PN 185-001. When we bought the super F, second hand, I noticed this part was different from ouuur F. It has a tab in front that keeps the twine from rolling off the front of the knife. This improved the cutting action immensely. I checked the parts book and the part number was the same. Vermeer must have changed the design but kept the original part number. I ordered the new part for the F and low and behold it cut almost without fail.

Now if someone would come up with a twin tie for this baler to speed up the tieing.

hope this helps

John

The twine tentioner is packed with flat washers, no spring. Works - until the end of ball knot....

The clamp thing at the top end of the tube just does not look right. Does not appaer to be able to be adjuted. Might have to look at it again. The arm itself was rebuilt (I bought this baler from a dealer liquidation sale, they went through it but it never baled anything...) and appears to be solid & good.

The twine never actually flows over the knife, trails off & down to the lower side bypassing the dull knife. I believe that little finger is just the ticket, and with that I can cure the rest of my problems. I kinda figured all the other stuff you said, but as the twine does not sit on the knife ever anyhow, didn't seem to be much point to it....

Need to tool over to the 'local' dealer & have a chat. :)
