barnyard/water grass

I'll try to keep this short. Last fall I planted brome grass in a 20 acre field and had about 75% wash away same night (5 inches rain). So to insure I had harvestable crop, I had oats planted in the spring and got a pretty good crop with the intention of replanting brome about now. Very wet year here all spring and summer and now, where there is not brome, there is tons of barnyard grass sometimes referred to as water grass. I did spray the field a couple of times to control weeds with 24D but it sure had no effect on the water grass. My plan was to use an "easy flow" seeder to put down the brome seed and then scratch in with a spike harrow. I don't even know if water grass is an annual weed or perennial. Please, any thoughts out there? I still have a pretty good brome crop on 25% to 30% of the field and I don't want to start over.

2,4D is a broadleaf herbicide- it does not kill grass. Take some weeds to your chem supplier for identification and they can tell you which product will work. You may be able to spray and till only those patches you want to reseed.
