JD 920 Rotary Disc Mower/Conditioner

I have a JD 730 tractor. It has about 55 hp with 540 PTO. I"m looking at using it to pull a JD 920 disc mo/co. The later generation JD (926) will run on 55 hp minimum so I"m assuming the 920 will be the same.

Am I correct, i.e. can my tractor run it?

Also does the 920 have a Kuhn bar cutter like the older New Hollands? I want to avoid this design.

I tried a used 920 a year ago and could not pull it properly with my JD 2030 which has 60 hp. The tractor would pull it but the temperature ran up near the red. This tractor never runs hot with any other implement. Is there any way you could try it out before buying it?

Hi, I have a JD 925 with impellars that I'm pulled all summer with a MF 165D (52HP). Big 1st cut and hills will slow the speed you can run it, but I was still able to run it faster than my JD 1219 MoCo. My understanding is that the JD 9XX models are made by JD and use the cutter head cartriges made by kuhn. The JD14xx were made by kuhns and had a drive shaft. Bill

I think the JD pull type disk mowers use a JD designed cutter bar while their 3pt disk mowers are rebadged Kuhn"s. You might have enough power to pull that mower but if you have any hills or thick hay you will not be able to pull it very fast.
