I picked up an old rusty 14-92 Ford sickle mower at a farm sale today because it had the clamps which were missing on the 501 I already have. They look a lot alike. Is there any major difference between the 2 which would keep the older one from being a source of parts (in the future) for the 501?

I have a 14-92 I use. I called New Holland for a manual and they told me they were the same mower as a 501. I got the manual they look the same. I can find nobody that know anything about a 14-92 mower.

Thanks for the comment. I'll get a better look at this thing this week. It was getting ready to storm just as we got home from the auction, so I backed the trailer with the mower on it into the shed & havn't looked at it since.

This mower has a 6 foot bar on it & came with another cutter bar which was wrapped in burlap. What length is yours Ernie? My 501 is a 7 footer.

Mine is a 6 footer, I wish it was a 7 ft model. I"ve got a JD model 39 7 foot but the 501 is alot easier to mount.

I also have a 501 14/92 with a 6' bar and bought another 501 with a 7' bar. Both are identical except the 7' mower uses a 1" shorter pitman rod.

I'll pull the burlap off of the extra 6 foot cutter bar this week & check it out. If it's a good one (who knows whats under the burlap) & one of you guys are interested. I'll sell it cheap. Don't know what shipping would be (I'm in southern Illinois), but I've no use it. Just let me know.

I have both mowers, using my old 501 as parts for the shiney 14-92 I got. Mine are identical except: the bar is farther out (longer frame) on the 14-92. All working parts are the same so far as I could find. My dealer has no clue what a 14-92 is, so we go from the 501 list.....

Note that Ford sold 3 different pulley sets & belt sizes, and there is no way to tell what you have other than measuring. Serial # is no help. Been there, went back for that...
