Hay rake bearings

I have heard that it is difficult to replace hay rake bearings because you cannot get them to go back into the end plate holes. Anyone have experience rebuilding a roll bar rake?

They are right. Yes I have. My 55 NH has a rubber square on one side on each bar, I managed to pry it back together & pry the rubber back in, but bout the same work as taking one whole side off & doing it that way.

Hope you haven"t already lost one. Course had you not, you probably wouldn"t be posting.

Had that happen once (different 5 bar rake). Was such a job to replace, I decided it wasn"t going to happen again.

Got a drill , tap and zerks, and installed zerks in the round part (of the casting of the current) in which the bearings are located. Pumped themfull of grease till it came out the sides. Keep em full.

Solves the replacement problem.

Also, I think this type is the best rake money can buy. Wind not a problem and takes all the hay you can cram at it.

Hello Wayne,
In order to replace the bearings in the rollabars, loosen them all up and this should give you a little slack in order to move the bar with the bad bearing out. You may also have to loosen the bolts on the spiders. Hope this is of some help to you. Jim
