I bought a 8455 caseih baler, it's working great, except it will not cut the twine. I've sharpened the knife until you can shave with it, everything seems to be in adjustment, knife is closing on twine when twine arms finish wrapping, knife is making good contact with metal plate. Cannot understand why it won't cut the twine. Was wondering if I put a piece of old rubber belt over metal plate, would that help. Any ideas appreciated.

i had the same problem with a JD 530, it turned out that my sister picked up the wrong size of twine. I ended up running back and cutting each bale with my pocket knife, even though it looked like the cutter was working, needless to say i doubled the amount of twine on each bale, to use it up quicker

Did you get the thick stuff in 6000 ft boxes of 2 used for square bales? If so, I see why you had to do what you had to do.

May be your brand of twine. My dad and I have twin NH 650's. I love Southern States brand premium twine but my baler wont cut it. Too slick just slides right through. His wont cut anything but the premium twine. I have to use the economy grade.

Both of us are using treated 16,000. I also have some difficulty with untreated twine for round bale silage, it is 'slicker' than the treated.

Got your solution.

My Hesston owners manual said "shave with em". You can. Ok

Roll the roll. You are

Tensioner needs to have enough tension to hold twine hard enough to get it to cut. Dunno you didn't say.

Cut the twine. It won't

Look at the cutter. Is it perpindicular to the twine when at the full cut spot?

Mine wasn't. My cutter is on a pivot and the tie arm comes back to the stow position and upon arriving at that position, it pushes on one end of the center pivot bracket and forces the cutter (on the other end) into the twine.

I welded a 2" steel extension onto the "cutter bracket" so the tie arm will start it moving 2" before it originally did. When the tie arm goes into full stow, it really puts the pressure on the cutter (now) and solved the problem.

Go fer it.

My Vermeer (403F)has a squeeze point for the twine to hold it tight while it cuts. However, I can only get a consistent cut if I tie the bale, move the twine tie back across the bale, shut off the baler, move the twine to the cut position, & re-start the baler. It works most every time this way- even though I'm sure the manufacturer didn't intend such manuvers.

Is the cutter end moving up when the twine arm is in the cut position. The piece on the end has bushings in it and needs to move to function right. I have also adapted the new style blades to work on this style baler. If you would like a picture. Let me know.

To James in NC. Were you referring to my post on the Vermeer 403F? If so, I'd be interested in your help. Thanks, Mike

You are still turning the bale/feeding the twine while attempting to cut it? I'm not familiar with CaseIH balers, but the Vermeers and NH I've had didn't so much "cut" as "saw" the twine....knife didn't have to be particularly sharp

Yes the bale is still rolling and the twine feeding out when it's trying to cut the twine.

I have a vermeer 504superI and it will cut only one side. It ties when the bale is turning and the twine is feeding. The knife blade rubs on the twine but it won't cut and will not adjust.

I have made extensions that will bring the knife lower in order to cut the twine on these balers. If you want I can post a picture. These blades are thin as you probably know and will rust so I recomend changing every spring before baling.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I took the whole knife assembly off and cleaned and greased it and it's working like a charm, rolled 65 rolls this afternoon, never had to get off the tractor. Thanks
