Just happen to be at the dealer picking up some parts when a NH 310 on the lot caught my eye. Some faded but not all beat up. Asked how much and they said make offer, very flexible. (JD dealer wants it gone) Walked out and looked it over and have a few questions. PTO was complete and not bent up. Gearbox seems tight and not leaking. Knoters had some wear but tied when cycled. Pickup not beat to death and tines good. However;

1) The feeder seem to have come apart at some time and had a lot of new(er) parts in it. It was apparent that these were not replace in the last few days. It had been ran awhile with them in there. Rails, arms, bearings, forks, and such. Could this have been upgraded to handle the rated speed? Do they have such an upgrade for them? If so, how could one tell?

2) The needles DID NOT come up when the plunger was all the way back. Plunger was about a third towards the front and heading north while needles were in the chamber. ?Out of time? Needles were not new and hadnt been welded. Didn't look as if they had ever been unbolted from there mounts. They just lucky, or they made that way? Had old hay in it and I could not see if the plunger had slots in the plunger for the needles like my ford.

It is no secret that over the years I have posted here that the 310 is one of my least favorite New Holland balers. If you are a novice farmer and won"t bale too much, they will do the job for ok. The feeder fork assembly is the biggest, but not the only weakness. Check to see if the safety latch is working. If so, the needle timing is ok if the flywheel bolt did not break. No feeder updates. Run the baler at 80% rated speed. Steve
